PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Portland Trail Blazers players are protesting the suspension of teammate Qyntel Woods because of allegations involving dogfighting.
Woods is being investigated for allegedly staging dogfights at his Lake Oswego home, the Oregonian reported Wednesday. Clackamas County sheriff's detectives said they found evidence "consistent of dog fighting or participation in dog fighting" at Woods' home this week.
KATU-TV in Portland said the case involved an abondoned dog named "Hollywood," found with puncture wounds, scars and bruises on her chest, belly and legs.
The team suspended the 23-year-old Woods Tuesday. No criminal charges have been filed.
"I don't think it's fair," forward Zach Randolph said.
Darius Miles said the suspension was "horrible."
"We are deeply disturbed by the developments in this case and we believe that suspending Qyntel is warranted and necessary," said Trail Blazers President Steve Patterson.
"We have said from the beginning that we are taking this situation very seriously. This organization will not accept this type of behavior and if these allegations prove to be true, and if further steps are needed, we will not hesitate to take them."
